What is the difference between an AI journal and a conversational journal?
A journal primarily stores writing. A conversational journal also lets the writer bring a thought into a responsive exchange, answer a question, test a perspective and return to the same thread later.
A quiet page and an AI conversation are not the same permission
A private Diary entry can remain writing created by the member with no AI response. A conversation begins only when the person deliberately asks JOS to respond. Keeping those paths distinct prevents every journal page from becoming model context by default.
When a JOS conversation is saved, it becomes a resumable Diary chapter that can continue from where the member left off. A private Diary page, a saved conversation and confirmed People, Goals, Preferences and Growth remain separate information types.
Choose based on what the thought needs
- Use a quiet journal when expression itself is enough.
- Use a conversation when a response, fair question or alternative perspective would help.
- Use voice when saying the thought aloud feels more natural than composing it.
- Keep only a specific fact or preference you want included in People, Goals, Preferences and Growth.
