How does JOS memory work?
JOS memory is a user-approved store of specific facts or preferences that may be useful in later conversations. A transcript, Diary chapter or AI suggestion does not become reusable memory automatically.
Context, history and memory have different jobs
- Current context contains the turns needed to continue the active conversation.
- History is a saved conversation or Diary chapter the member can revisit.
- Memory is a specific reusable fact or preference the member approved.
- Patterns are separate hypotheses and remain separately permissioned.
Approval should stay visible and reversible
A proposed memory is inactive until the member reviews it and chooses to approve it. Active items show their source and approval date and remain individually editable or deletable.
Deleting a memory removes it from future retrieval and derived indexes. Correcting something in the current conversation should override conflicting older context rather than forcing the member to defend the correction.
