When the conversation will not leave your head

Replaying it is not always the same as understanding it.

A message, tone or unfinished exchange can become louder each time you revisit it. JOS gives you somewhere to slow the replay down without pretending to know what the other person meant.

Name what is happening

You may be caught between

  • 01

the exact words that were used and the meaning you attached to them

  • 02

what you wish you had said and what would actually help now

  • 03

a real pattern you should notice and a fear filling in missing information

A conversation, not a questionnaire

JOS can help separate evidence from interpretation

A useful place to begin: Help me see it clearly

  1. Lay out the exchange in the order it happened, including the part that keeps catching your attention.
  2. Use Help me see it clearly for facts, assumptions and unanswered questions, or Relationship perspective for a fair reading that does not automatically take sides.
  3. If the conversation has reached a useful point, JOS can help you decide whether to respond, wait, clarify or let it end.

Start in your own words

You could begin like this.

I keep replaying one conversation and I cannot tell whether I am overthinking it.
Help me separate what they actually said from what I am assuming.
