When you need somewhere neutral
You do not have to know the answer before you start talking.
Sometimes the useful first step is not advice. It is having enough uninterrupted room to say what happened, notice what keeps pulling at you and work out what you actually need from the conversation.
Name what is happening
This may be the moment when
- 01
the thought keeps returning, but you cannot yet explain why it matters
- 02
you want to be honest without managing another person's reaction
- 03
you need to hear your own thinking before asking anyone else what to do
A conversation, not a questionnaire
JOS can stay with the unfinished thought
A useful place to begin: Just listen or Help me see it clearly
- Start with your own words by voice or text; you do not need to turn the situation into a polished prompt.
- Choose Just listen when you need room, or Help me see it clearly when you want help separating the main thread from everything around it.
- Correct JOS whenever something does not fit. Your correction guides what comes next.
Start in your own words
You could begin like this.
“I need to talk something through, but I do not know where to begin.”
“Can I say the whole situation first before we work out what it means?”
